Tender Conversations with Gabriella about Jesus

March 10th
Gabriella earnestly asked me "Mommy, when am I going to see Jesus with my eyes?" {Sigh...} She loves her Jesus so much!!! I can just see her running up to him and jumping right into his arms one day. Oh, if we could only have the faith of a child. Blessed are those who have not seen and still believe. (John 20:29)

March 13th
Recently Gabriella has asked me a lot of questions about death. Today she asked me about what happens to our bodies after we die. She was so excited when I told her that we will have brand new bodies when we get to heaven...perfect ones! She thought for a moment then questioned what color her new skin would be...I thought for sure she'd ask if it'd be pink but no, before I could even say a word she answered her own question with an excited "black!?!?". To say I love her is an understatement.

Gabby ran up to me today and grabbed my neck. She squeezed me tight and said "I love my family so much. I'm going to tell you who I love starting with the one I love the most." My heart was immediately swept way! I awwww-ed until I couldn't anymore.  I just thought it was such incredibly sweet thing to say without even having to hear her list names. I would have been content if our conversation had ended there. I have to admit, though, because of the way she jumped into my arms and hugged my neck so tight I was sure she was going to say mommy first (is that selfish of me?) and so on but...no, she amazes me yet again. She begins her list and blurts out "Jesus!"! Oh my heart, be still.

March 18th
On the way to dance class this evening, Gabriella and I have a conversation about creation. I hear her voice speak up from the back row of our quiet van.  She asks...

Gabriella: Mommy, how did Jesus make the whole Earth? (She currently uses Jesus and God interchangeably and to her they are the same :) as they should be.)
Me: Oh Gabby, all he had to do was say the words and the whole Earth appeared, out of nowhere!!
Gabriella: (super, super excited) Oh WOW!!!! That's SOOOO cool, Mommy! I wish I could do that!!!
Me: Wouldn't that be so awesome!?!?
(After a long silent pause, I thought our conversation was over but really the best was yet to come.)
Gabriella: Well, maybe Jesus can give us the power inside of us to do it!?!?

Whew, now that can preach! YES, Gabriella, YES!  Needless to say, I then went on and on about how she was exactly right! We talked about praying and asking for the power of God. All we have to do is ask and believe then WE, too, can receive His power and do miraculous things for Him!

I wish I could have recorded this beautiful conversation so that I'd always be able to remember her exuberant level of excitment. I love her enthusiasm for Jesus!

This conversation led to her inquiring about how God made humans and {sigh...} the conversation was just as beautiful! She was in awe of how God formed Adam from dirt and breathed life into him. As I told her about God breathing life into Adam, I saw her, from the rear view mirror, fill her lungs and cheeks with air as she imagined God doing so. She had plenty of questions about where he found the dirt and what kind of dirt it was.

Later that evening we did some water color painting and upon finishing her "masterpiece" she shared it with me...it was of God in the garden, getting ready to make her from the dirt. :)

These conversations have been truly priceless. I can't believe I am the one who gets to teach her about all of these things. I feel so honored to be her mommy.

Although you, Gabriella, sit and soak up these teachings you, (yes, even as a four year old) teach me so much more. You teach me daily about faith and love and passion and desire and life. You teach me how to live this life we're given to the very fullest. You have the most subtle and beautiful ways of reminding me of our purpose here on Earth. Thank you for shining your light for your mommy (and the world) to see.
